So, I got my blocks finally! It was great opening the boxes and having that wood smell float out! Really no problems with them, they were so well packed (lots of paper, bubble wrap AND foam). I thought I’d try out my cloche multi-block first, it is made out of obeche wood which is a soft wood so it easy to put pins into but I don’t know, it’s a bit too soft for me (Guy Morse-Brown’s multi-blocks are only avaible in obeche, the other blocks I got are made out of tulip wood, a harder wood). I really liked the blocking pins they sent free (two boxes!), I’m used to using normal pins (or slightly thicker ones, called ‘argentines’ - don’t know the name in english!), great for pinning the felt hood under the block. What was good is that it was really sunny this morning (it’s gone all dark since then…), so it was easier to see if there were any lumps (like in the fifth photo!) that needed smoothing out. At the moment, the stiffener is drying on the felt but I’ve already thought what sort of triming I’d like to do, something all curly like in the last pic (of course, in a more appropriate color) and the edge- after it’s been wired- will probably be covered with a biais strip to match. Better get sewing!

Donc, j’ai enfin mes formes en bois! C’était génial d’ouvrir les cartons et avoir l’odeur du bois plein les narines! Ils sont impeccables, ils étaient super bien emballés (avec du papier, du papier bulle ET de la mousse). Pour commencer, j’ai décidé d’utiliser ma forme cloche ‘multi-blocs’,  qui est faite en bois d’obèche, un bois assez mou, donc c’est facile d’épingler le feutre dessus mais c’est un peu trop mou à mon goût (les multi-blocs de chez Guy Morse-Brown sont disponibles qu’en obèche, mais les autres formes que j’ai acheté sont en bois de tulipier, un bois plus dur). J’ai beaucoup aimé les sortes de punaises/épingles  qu’ils m’ont envoyé gratos (deux boîtes!), j’ai l’habitude d’utiliser des épingles normales ou des argentines, mais j’avoue là c’était plus facile pour fixer le feutre sous la forme. Ce matin il fasait beau (ça s’est assombri depuis…), donc c’était facile de voir s’il avait des petites bosses (comme sur la cinquième photo!) à aplatir. En ce moment l’apprêt est entrain de sècher sur le feutre mais j’ai déjà réfléchir à une garniture, quelque chose de bouclé comme sur la dernière photo (bien sûr dans une couleur plus appropriée) et le bord - après l’avoir laitonné - sera couvert d’un morceau de biais assorti. Je ferais mieux d’aller coudre!
