At the moment I’m looking into hat blocks to buy! It’s really quite exciting! I’ve been looking into a few suppliers (Van der Broek in Holland, Guy Morse-Brown and Hazel’s Hats in the UK) and there is a lot of choice. I’m not quite sure exactly what I want yet, it all depends on the prices aswell! Maybe a small facsinator block, something traditional and something more fun? What is good on the Guy Morse-Brown’s site is that there are pics of hats made using their blocks, it does make a clearer idea of how each block can be used. I really want to get into making felt hats again, I haven’t made any in a while. I did a post a while back explaining what a hat block is and how it is used. Have you ever bought a hat block from one of those suppliers? Any bad experiences?

20|Jan|2010 1Hi, I’ve bought from Guy Morse-Brown and was very happy. I got a multi block crown set and a cloche brim. The man that I spoke to on the phone when ordering (I think he’s called Owen) was really nice, friendly and helpful. I’ve known others that have bought from him too and they’ve had the same experience.

14|Feb|2010 4I know you\’ve already bought the blocks, but maybe you\’re still interested:
I\’ve bought some blocks at \"Van der Broek\" and am not very happy with them. First of all you have to pay extra if you want the blocks to be lacquered (don\’t know if this is the same with Guy Morse-Brown?) and they where not even smoothed in an acceptable way.
I also had the problem that I bought a tophat block which is not divided in 5 parts. The difference between top and bandline didn\’t seem to be that much, so I thought it wouldn\’t be any problem to block a felt topper on it- but no chance, it looses it\’s shape when you try to get it off the block.
I think they should have told me, that it would be better to cut the block.
Unfortunately they told me it wasn\’t possible to do this afterwards so I have this block standing around without being able to use it.
Next time I will try it there: http://www.hatforms.com

14|Feb|2010 5My blocks form Guy Morse-Brown have arrived in France, I just have to find the time to pick them up from the courier compagny! I’ll keep you posted if they are any good,it is hard to judge on a computer screen, isn’t it? It is such a shame about your tophat block, you think they would have advised you before you bought it really. Thanks for the link, I had never heard of them, will check it out!
