This christmas I got given two lovely hats - a blue one made out of a fine corduroy fabric and a lovely headpiece made out of silvery leaves. Unfortunately, the blue hat is a bit too small for my rather big head! Both hats have veiling on them, I gave them a small steam to freshen them up a bit. To make steam there’s always the good old boiling kettle, another way is to put a damp 100% cotton cloth over a hot iron. Of course, you have to be careful that the cloth doesn’t dry out and start to burn! If you do want to try this out, it’s best to use an iron that you don’t use for you’re usual day to day ironing, I often end up with a brown residue on my crafting iron. I really like my silver headpiece, the veil goes down to the nose, it’s shaped so that you can do an elaborate hair-do at the back, and it’s nice to see how it’s been made with a wire frame inside. I’ll have to try and make one myself!

A noël, on m’a offert deux chapeaux vintage : un bleu fait d’un velours côtelé fin et un autre tout joli fait de feuilles argentées. Malheureusement, le toque bleu est vraiment trop petit pour ma grosse tête! Les deux chapeaux ont des voilettes, donc j’ai utilisé un peu de vapeur pour les rafraîchir. Pour faire de la vapeur il y a toujours le bon vieux bouilloire, mais on peut aussi placer un morceau de tissu 100% coton trempé sur un fer à repasser chaud. Bien sûr, il faut attention à ne pas laisser le tissu secher et brûler! Si vous voulez tester ce technique je vous conseille d’utiliser un autre fer que celui que vous utilisez pour vos vêtements, j’ai souvent un dépôt marron sur mon fer lorsque j’ai terminé! J’adore mon petit ‘chapeau’ argenté, la voilette tombe au niveau du nez, sa forme laisse de la place au dos pour faire une coiffure elaborée et c’est intéressant de voir sa structure en fil de fer à l’intérieur. Je vais devoir en faire un moi-même!
