As soon as winter ends it seems like hats competitions pop up all over the place, made easier it must be said by the site Talent House. Obviously, the main competition every milliner/hatter has heard about is the one about Queen Elisabeth’s diamond jubilee (voting starts tomorrow). I really didn’t feel inspired by that one at all and the prize just didn’t interest me enough. Ok, so a five day millinery class in the town of  Toulouse, in a “château”, can sound pretty cool, but hey, I was taught the craft by two amazing milliners in Paris…so let me be a snobby bitch. The one competition that caught my attention the other day is also being held over on Talent House, it’s a competition to design a headpiece for  Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs (aka Orlando Higginbottom…uh, I can’t read that name and not giggle) which he will wear at the next Bestival Festival. I did a blog post about him a while ago (check it out), he really does have a thing for headpieces. I’ve got about a month to submit my design. For the moment, I’m doing a bit of research and some doodling. I’m finding it tough – of course, I want to do something new and impressive  but at the same time it is a design for a specific person and vibe. Also, as it’s for a show, it has to be big and all “wow”.  I’m sort of excited to participate in a project that really talks to me, but also all nervous that I won’t be able to live up to the challenge!

Dès que l’hiver se termine, on dirait que des concours de chapeau voient le jour de partout, chose facilitée par le site Talent House il faut le dire. Evidemment, le concours principal dont tout modiste/chapelier a entendu parlé et celui concernant le jubilé de diamant de la Reine Elisabeth (le vote commence demain). Je ne me sentais vraiment pas inspirée par celui-là et le premier prix ne m’intéressait pas assez. Bon, un cours de chapeau pendant cinq jours dans un château dans la ville de Toulouse peut avoir l’air assez cool, mais hé, j’ai été enseigné le métier par deux modistes épatantes à Paris…donc laissez-moi faire ma pétasse bien snob. Le  concours qui a attiré mon attention l’autre jour a aussi lieu sur Talent House, c’est un concours pour concevoir une coiffe pour Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs (de son vrai nom, Orlando Higginbottom…euh, je ne peux pas lire ce nom sans rigoler), qu’il portera lors du prochain Bestival Festival. J’avais déjà fait un post sur lui il y a un moment (c’est par ici), il a vraiment un truc pour les coiffes. J’ai environ un mois pour soumettre ma proposition. Pour le moment, je fais quelques recherches et des gribouillages. Je trouve ça assez dur – bien sûr, je veux faire quelque chose de nouveau et impressionnant, mais en même temps c’est une création pour quelqu’un de précis avec son univers. De plus, c’est pour un show, ça se doit d’être grand et tout “wow”. Je suis assez excitée de participer à un projet qui m’interpelle vraiment, mais aussi bien nerveuse à l’idée de ne pas être à la hauteur du défi!
Je vous tiendrai au courant de mon avancement et lorsque le vote commencera je vais vous harceler!! ! Ahah! Et s’il y en a parmi vous qui participez aussi au concours, bonne chance!
