The new issue of ‘Télérama’ has come out today (Télérama is a french cultural magazine as well as a TV guide), which has a special round up of the special craft courses/schools in France – in areas such as art restoration, ceramics, glass-making, wood crafts, fashion and jewelry. It’s really interesting, I sure wish I’d had this sort of information a few years ago! I was approached by the magazine a couple of months ago to talk about the millinery course I did, and sure enough those are my words printed on page 190!! Ok, so they’ve misspelt my name but it is sort of cool to see my it in print with ‘milliner’ written next to it! I think I’m going to have to put it in a frame hehehe!!
Here’s a quick translation of my fine words : “I’ve always been interested in sewing and design. I like working with material, seeing it take shape and turn into an object. In my opinion, hats have more to offer than clothes, creatively speaking. After a fashion course in Tours, I signed up to a millinery course at the ‘Chambre Syndicale de la Couture’ school in Paris. I enjoyed the very tangible way we were taught, with two days of class per week. The only downside is that you’re taught to be more of an employee than as a future employer. Also, hats are an accessory from another time, work is scarce. Luckily, after my apprenticeship course I was offered work at ‘La Tribu des Oieseaux’, a hat workshop in Lyon.”
