While over in New York I though it would be a good opportunity to go over to the Etsy headquarters  (in Brooklyn, you could see the Manhatten bridge out of the window) and take part in a craft night. Craft nights are held every Monday from 4 – 8pm.  I went on August 9th, the theme was ‘summer camp’ and we got to make friendship bracelets, keyrings with plastic lanyards  and  god eyes. As I have already made friendship bracelets in the past I stuck to the last two activities. The god eyes were fun to make (as you can see on the last photo I have an obvious natural talent for it!), but as for doing making those keyrings by sort of weaving those plastic threads (something everybody has done before in their childhood apart for me!) well, my first attempt was good but it didn’t convince me enough to make another one (or post a photo) hehehe! It was great to just sit down and chit chat with everybody there (while trying to figure where we went wrong with those lanyards…), craft nights are open to everyone by the way - not just Etsy people. I got there at the beginning, at 4pm, there were only a few people but as time went by more and more arrived and it was soon pretty much packed! It’s was so nice to be able to meet up with other crafty peeps, learning something new, in a fun atomsphere (and by the way, all materials are provided for free). Also, of what I saw of the offices, those Etsy folk get to work in a cool snazzy place, I want to work for Etsy now! If you want to attend a craft night, there’s more info in  the Etsy Storque. Pendant que j’étais à New York je me suis dit que c’était la bonne occassion d’aller au QG d’Etsy (à Brooklyn, on voit le pont de Manhatten à travers la fênetre) et de participer à un ‘craft night’ (une soirée loisirs créatifs). Les ‘craft night’ ont lieu tous les lundi, de 16h à 20h. Je m’y suis rendue le 9 Août, le thème de la soirée étant ‘colonie de vancances’, les projets étaient de frabriquer des bracelets brésiliens, des porte-clés scoubidou et des ‘yeux’ porte bonheur. Ayant déjà fabriqué des bracelets brésiliens dans le passé, je me suis lancée dans les deux dernières activités. Les yeux étaient drôle à faire (comme vous pouvez constater d’après la dernière photo, c’est évident que j’ai un don naturel pour ces choses là!), mais ce qui est des scoubidou (quelque chose que moi je n’ai jamais fait étant jeune…oui je dois être la seule) mon premier essai était pas mal mais pas assez convaincant pour en refaire (ou pour poster une image ici!) hihihi! C’était génial juste de s’asseoir et de papoter avec tout le monde (tout en essayant de comprendre où on s’est trompé avec nos scoubidou…), les craft night sont ouverts à tous – pas seulement les gens de la communauté Etsy. Je suis arrivée au début, à 16h, il n’y avait pas grand monde mais à fur et à mesure on était de plus en plus nombreux, pas loin de manquer de place! C’était sympa de rencontrer ces autres gens, tous intéressés par les loisirs créatifs/manuels, d’apprendre quelque chose de neuve dans un environnement décontracté (et je précise que tout est fourni gratuitement). Aussi, de ce que j’ai pu voir des bureaux, les employés d’Etsy taffent dans un endroit classe, je veux travailler pour Etsy maintenant!
