Unfortunately, my digital camera has broken so I can’t show you what I’ve been making this past couple of weeks. So, I’ve decided to do a quick review of this book, ‘Uniforms’ by Bill Dunn.

The book takes a look at a wide selection of uniforms, past and present. It’s divided into several chapters : military, authority, under authority, work, sport, leisure, future and fantasy, so it really covers a bit of everything! Each chapter starts of with an explication (historical, influences, meanings…) the rest is just images. There is nearly 300 illustrations so it is useful to have around. There are a lot of uniforms which include hats, I originally bought it to have some quick references in military headwear.  I thought the  ’future and fantasy’ chapter was a great idea, it has a lot of uniforms from TV shows and films ( Star Trek, Thunderbirds,Barbarella…).  ‘Uniforms’ is only available in english, published by Laurence King.

Ce livre nous montre un large panel d’uniformes, du passé au présent. Chaque chapître commence par une explication (historique, influences, significations….), le reste n’est qu’images. Le livre comporte près de 300 images donc c’est pratique à avoir sous la main. Il y a pas mal d’uniformes qui comportent un chapeau, à la base j’avais acheté le bouquin pour avoir quelques références de chapeux militaires. J’ai pensé que le chapître dédié à l’avenir et au domaine fantastique était une bonne idée, il y a des uniformes de films et de séries télé (Startrek, Thunderbirds, Barbarella…). ‘Uniforms’ est seulement disponible en anglais, publié par Laurence King.
