At the moment I’m working on a hat for a friend of mine. She wanted a hat similar to the ‘Tutti Frutti’ hat (the first hat you can see in the gallery) just all in black. I’m currently making the  small cap base out of  a special straw. It is a artificial straw called ‘swiss recello braid’ (in french, ‘zan’), made out of cellophane. It has a nice shiny finish to it and comes in various widthes.  As you can see on the photo this straw is a braid to be sewn in a spiral style. You can sew it together by machine but I’m sewing this cap togther by hand, it is more discreet (lucky it’s a small hat!). To make sure that the hat won’t move when it’s worn elastic will be sewn onto it that will go behind the ears and round the back of the head, I might also sew on the inside a small hair comb just to make sure it won’t budge!

En ce moment je travaille sur un chapeau pour une amie, elle voulait un chapeau ressemblant au modèle ’Tutti Frutti’ (le premier chapeau visible dans la galerie) mais tout en noir. Actuellement, je fabrique la petite calotte avec une paille spéciale. C’est une paille artificielle appelée ‘zan’ (en anglais ‘swiss racello braid’, faite en cellophane. Elle a un joli aspect brillant et est disponible en plusieurs largeurs. Comme vous pouvez le voir sur la photo cette paille ce présente sous forme de ‘ruban’ à coudre en spirale.  La paille peut se coudre à la machine mais là j’ai préféré faire la calotte à la main, c’est plus discret (heureusement que c’est un petit chapeau!). Pour être sûr que le chapeau ne bouge  pas sur la tête une fois portée je vais coudre de l’élastique qui va passer derrière les oreilles et sous les cheveux, je peux aussi coudre à l’intérieur un petit peigne à cheveux pour que ça ne bouge vraiment pas d’un poil!
